You Are the Light of the World

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

Jesus said “I am the light of the world.” When we are filled with Him, His light shines out from us. Wherever God puts us, we are to shine there. That is our assignment. I started working a job at a store in Auburn a month or so ago. I am asking God to help me let His light shine in that store.
When the darkness is deep, the light shines all the brighter. Darkness is deep right now, isn’t it! Everywhere we turn evil seems to be triumphing. We need to crank up the light! We need to let our little lights shine!
We must not be afraid to shine the light of Christ’s love into dark places. The glory of God is strong! We need to make it known to those who are not recognizing it or appreciating it.
Those people are not hard to find are they? They are all around us. Peter tells us “And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” The other day someone at work asked me what is the secret of the good relationship I have with my wife. I said if you really want to know I’ll tell you. It’s Jesus Christ. A glimmer of light.
We are the light of the world – because the light of the world is in us and shining out of us. When we let it shine before others they will give glory to our Father in heaven. Let’s not hold back. The world is in rough shape. People need answers, and we have them. It may seem corny and old-fashioned to some, but when push comes to shove it is real answers that count. Jesus Christ is the light of the world and we are His ambassadors. Push is coming to shove and now is the time to stand strong and speak up for Him.
What a great time of year to let our light shine!
