Who Do You Seek?

In my quiet time the other day I read these verses from 1 Chronicles, “As for you Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind… If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you…”
I am always amazed how God gives us so much freedom. He lays out both sides of our life and allows us to make the choice. The choice for us becomes short term enjoyment or long term blessing. We are drawn to the immediate, how we feel in the here and now. We want what everyone else has or what it seems like they have. We refuse to take a look at the long term effects of the choices we are making. If it feels good it must be right, becomes our motto.
I love the phrase “if you seek him, he will be found…” God is not trying to hide from us. It is his desire to be discovered by everyone. When we “seek him” the long term effect on our lives is always blessing, personally and for those that we live life with. Notice that I did not say our life would be EASY; that is not what God promises. He promises his peace, joy, hope, and fulfillment, not “easy street.” But then, there is no such thing as easy street; even doing my own thing isn’t easy street.
The end of these verses is so great: “Be strong, and do it.” God knows that making the choice to “seek” him is not easy. We are constantly being distracted, but we can be strong and do it. It is simply a choice.
Who will you choose to seek today, self or God? Choose wisely.
