What You Focus On You Become

What are you focused on right now? When I say “focused on” I am talking about whatever has your attention, energy, and will. Whatever you are giving those parts of yourself to, is creating who you are becoming. This is the stuff that consumes you. This is both good and bad. This can be incredibly helpful if we are in a healthy place and working on our personal relationship with Christ or our character. But this can be incredibly damaging if we are self focused. The more we focus our attention inward the more self absorbed and self indulgent we become.
Let me show you something the Bible has to say about focus. The verse is found in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
Our tendency is the focus on and be pulled toward things that we can grasp and put our hands on. We want to see immediate results. We want to focus on things we can attain. But the Bible tells us to spend our time and energy on the unseen (God), to focus our energy on the eternal.
Why?
Well, here is what I have learned. Whenever I focus on self what I gain is empty and leaves me wanting more. Whenever I focus on God and His character what I gain is filling and brings contentment. My desire, and I am pretty sure yours is as well, is that I would become more like Christ each day; and in order for that to happen I need my focus to be completely on Him. So do you. We need to be consumed with knowing and becoming like Him.
What or who are you focused on?
