What To Do

Do you spend much of your time wondering what you should do next in life? Do you find yourself sitting around twirling your thumbs contemplating what God wants you to do next? Maybe you are frustrated; you have been seeking and asking God what you should be doing and He doesn’t seem to be answering. I would like you to consider a verse with me this morning that I think will help us figure out what is next for each of us. Are you ready to be amazed and enlightened? Here it is: “For this is God’s will, your sanctification…” 1 Thessalonians 4:3 CSB. Amazing, right? Simple, right? Too easy, you might say. Ahh, but don’t jump too quickly on the “too easy” thought. The word sanctification means, “the process of being made holy.” With that meaning in mind, God’s will for the Christ-follower’s life is the removal of all the habits, pride, actions and thoughts that make us unholy. One would think that we would all want desperately to get rid of those things, but at a closer look we realize that we are rather fond of and attached to a number of those behaviors. Getting rid of them takes a considerable effort and we must engage our will and take intentional steps each day.
The good news is, if we are willing to work on those parts of our life, the Holy Spirit will give us the strength and will help us each day to overcome our old nature, making us more and more like Christ. The more like Christ we become the more aware we are of the the people God wants us to be helping and encouraging. The more holy we become the less we will wonder what we should do next.
Where are you in the process of sanctification?
