What Has You?

“Our deepest devotions simply leak out of our bodies by how we spend our time and what makes us smile and what claims our energy.” John Ortberg

Most of you reading this blog would make the claim to be a Christ follower. You could, more than likely, tell me when that took place in your life, the time when you realized what Christ had done for you, paying the price for your sin so your relationship with your creator could be restored.
Today I would like to ask you to think about that relationship and do a little check up. Here is the question I would like to ask, “Who/what are you deeply devoted to?” I know, you read the quote at the top of the page. So, go ahead and unpack the thought. Look at your life over the past few hours, days, weeks, months and year. You have been “leaking out your devotion”. What has you? What or who has your time, energy and brings you joy? That is what you are devoted to. If you are like me, I see a lot of things trying to grab my devotion, and I know that as a Christ follower my devotion belongs to God. But what does being devoted to God look like? Does it mean I need to read my Bible an hour a day and pray for two more? How about volunteering at church, being generous, maybe joining a monastery? (Okay, that’s a little overboard.)
Being devoted to God has more to do with my heart than anything else. You see, if God has the devotion of my heart then everything else will fall into place. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul.” When I am devoted to God first then I will spend the right amount of time and energy on everything else. What should be leaking out of us first is a deep love for Jesus, who He is, what He loves and how He acts.

Who has your devotion?
