Wash, Rinse, Repeat

Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.” 2 Peter 1:12 NLT

Have you ever stopped and thought about how much of your life you spend repeating things? Think for a moment about your average day, how many of the things that you did today did you do yesterday? My guess is, it’s a lot! I am sure that you more than likely follow the same routine almost every day, and there is nothing wrong with that. If you have found a way to live life that works for you, why change it? Right? In the verse we started with today we are picking up partway through a thought from the Apostle Peter. He has just reminded Christ-followers of all that they have in Christ and of the fact that if they continue to respond to God they can add more knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, and love to their lives. What is interesting to me is that he doesn’t stop with telling them the list of what they can have and then leave them to figure it out. In verse 12 he says, “I will always remind you.” These things are so good, so beneficial to them that he does not want them to miss out or forget. Peter knows that these are the things that really matter in life, so he continues to encourages us to pursue them.
Christ-follower, we should be doing the same thing as Peter. We need to be encouraging each other to chase after the character qualities that make us more like Christ. We get caught up in living life and often forget the things that really matter. We need a Peter in our lives who will “always remind us of these things.” That’s why sharing life with other Christ-followers is so important, we all need to be reminded of the truths we have been taught.

Who are you reminding? Who is reminding you?
