Wait

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Psalm 27:14

I’m guessing that pretty much everyone has a list of things that they don’t like to do. Your list might include things like doing the dishes, going to the dentist, weeding the garden, paying bills. Near the top of my list is waiting. I do not like to wait! I don’t like waiting in the doctor’s office, I don’t like waiting for flights at the airport, I don’t like waiting for meetings to start because people are late. I guess I’m an impatient person! I know–I’m working on it!

This translates to my spiritual life as well. If something needs to be done, I want to see it happen now. Can you relate? “Why is God not working? Why is He not answering? God–it would really be best if You did something now!” Maybe you’ve never thought that, but I have. King David faced many anxious moments in his life and he expressed in Psalm 27 his trust in God’s ability and desire to work. In verses 1-6, he acknowledged that God had the power to deliver him from his enemies. He knew that God would never forsake him (Psalm 27:10). Because he knew these things, he had learned to wait for God to intervene.

As I think about this passage, I realize that when I’m impatient for God to do something, I am actually telling Him that I don’t trust Him. I am saying that I either don’t think He can help me, or that He doesn’t want to help me. “Wait, Mike,” He says. “Trust Me. I’m here.” Examine your heart. Do you have a waiting problem? It may be a trusting problem.
