Unexpected

Have you ever had something totally unexpected happen? Maybe a bill got paid as a gift to you; maybe you received a note of encouragement at just the right time; maybe you were cleaning out your closet and found $10,000. How about you walk into your job Monday morning and your boss says, “I have been watching how well you work and how you inspire your team so I am giving you a raise and an extra week of vacation.” Or, maybe the opposite happened and the unexpected event was negative; your bill was doubled, you received a nasty note, you lost $10,000 and your boss fired you. (Hold on, that’s a country song.) Okay, none of those events happened, but you get my point.
As Christ followers God does the unexpected for us every day. He, because of his incredible love and mercy, reaches down into our lives and showers us with his grace each moment. Peter says this truth this way “ ….He has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature.” The struggle for me (and maybe you) is that I often miss the unexpected hand of God. I get so wrapped up in living life, trying to deal with the good and the bad, that I miss those “precious promises.” May I challenge us today? Look for the unexpected hand and heart of God today; I think we will be surprised how often we see Him.
