Transformed
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
For those of you who are parents, did you ever have a time when you were raising your children where you felt like all you did was issue negative commands? “Don’t do that! Don’t put that in your mouth! Don’t throw your sister off the deck!” Good times.
Some people think that’s what living the Christian life is like–a list of don’ts. A closer examination of Scripture, however, shows us that being a Christ follower is not just about not doing the wrong things–it’s about doing the right things. In Romans 12:2, Paul challenges us to not allow the world to squeeze us into its mold. Rather, our lives need to be transformed, which happens by having our minds renewed (changed, re-wired). The only way to establish these new and necessary thinking processes is by continually taking in the truth of God. In Colossians 3:16, Paul says that “the Word of Christ (must) dwell in (us) richly.” Ever had a dessert that is too rich? The sweetness is so strong that it overpowers all of the other flavors. That’s what needs to happen in our hearts! The truth needs to be so strong that it overpowers the lies of the world and Satan. As the song says, “His truth will break down every lie.”
There is a wonderful promise that comes to fruition when this transformation takes place in your mind. You learn to discern God’s will in your life! He begins to work His purpose in you. Saturate your mind with Truth and be transformed.
