Together

Over the past few weeks (I guess it has been 9 now), I have been thinking about how we as Christ followers are to carry out the “one anothers” of the Bible when we are unable to see each other. Some of them we can do by simply texting, calling, Face-timing, or through some form of social media. But the reality is those fall way short of what the Bible has in mind when it tells us to love and care for one another. In order for us to help each other grow and become the person that God wants us to be we have to be physically together. Here are two reasons why. First, when we check in through social media we don’t really have to be present. Oh, we are there, but if you are anything like me, you are easily distracted. Secondly, God created us to be physically with other people. Being in close proximity to others gives us the opportunity to read facial expressions and body language; it allows us the ability to feel the other person’s attitude and sense if they are leaving some things unspoken or need some encouragement.
So, over the next few weeks (as our towns and state begin to re-open) be looking for opportunities to engage with others intentionally one to one. Don’t get caught in the trap of talking about the mindless; instead, spend your time and energy encouraging each other to continue in your faith and becoming more like Christ.
