The Journey

Each one of us is on a journey. We are all headed somewhere. The difference between the everyday person and the leader is this: the everyday individual thinks that the next goal is the destination, and the leader knows that they never really arrive at the end. Every reached goal is only the next step in the journey. The difference in thought process is huge. When I allow myself to believe that I have reached the end, I give up, I let off, I become less concerned with doing things well and continuing my growth. I stop learning. Ultimately I will end up discouraged and complacent. But if I realize that this goal is only one of many steps, and that I need to use what I learned to keep going, my outlook on life is very different. I tend to be ready to meet the constant challenges of life; I am less likely to blame others for where I find myself. I start to look at the world through God’s eyes, not mine. This perspective gives me the ability to influence others and have a positive impact on the world around me. It also brings excitement to life. It is so boring to arrive. I mean, it is nice to get there, but really when you arrive, then what? You sit. It is in traveling that you get to experience and see things. It is in traveling that lessons are learned, friendships are made and the wonder of life is explored. So keep traveling, stop trying to arrive. Enjoy the journey, learn the lessons and watch for the next adventure.
