The Cost of Leadership Is Continuous

Last week we talked about stopping to count the cost of leading. Hopefully you have taken a little time to do that and have adjusted your leadership accordingly. Today I want you to think about the continuing cost of leadership. Leading never stops. When you finish a project there is another one; when you reach your objective with a group of people there is always another step to take. The constant movement of leading can be tiring. My goal in this blog is not to tire you out but to help you build in sustainability. When you realize that the cost is continuous then you can adjust your life for the marathon of leadership, not a sprint. What does this adjustment look like? It is continuing your personal development physically, mentally and spiritually, committing to being a lifelong learner, planning resting points and some fun relational events with your team, recruiting a partner who checks your attitude from time to time, and scheduling a few regular breaks when you completely remove yourself from all that is happening.
The goal is to make your leadership effective for a long time, so you are fulfilled, and your team achieves their goals.
Are you preparing for the continuous cost of leadership?
