Test Yourself
Have you ever looked at something that someone else was doing and thought “I could do that, that wouldn’t be too hard, I could even do that better”? Maybe your thought was “Why is that taking them so long?” Or “They don’t have a clue what they are doing.”
Ok, you haven’t had any of those thoughts; you are better than that. Well, just in case those kind of thoughts ever creep into your mind let me give you a reality checkup to run through with yourself that might bring a little perspective.
1. Do you really know what their life is like?
Looking from the outside in is very different than looking from the inside out. You may need to get their view.
2. When was the last time you tried something new?
It is easy to think that things we are observing are easy until we try them. So, before you judge, try it!
3. How many things do you do that are not done well?
So does everyone else. (By the way, this is not an excuse for not doing your best. It is easy to not put in a good effort when we don’t enjoy what we are doing.)
4. How many unfinished projects do you have in your life?
This is great way to get your eyes back where they belong, and to possibly motivate yourself to finish some of your own stuff. (Your spouse will be happy!)
These four questions are great questions to ask myself on a regular basis. They will help keep me growing and keep my attitude toward others in check.
