Stuff
Written by Brian Ellis
Man, do folks have a lot of STUFF. It never ceases to surprise me the number of cars parked outside ’cause the garage is overflowing with TREASURES. Treasures we hold on to because someday someone will NEED this. So much so, that storage units are popping up all over to hold the overflow from our attics and garages.
It’s the same with our spiritual space. Most of us are overflowing with sins we hide away, too embarrassed to let anyone see. We tuck them in a box, jam them in the attic and wait for the dust to cover up what the WORD has already taken from us. Beside the SIN BOX is the TREASURE CHEST. Gifts the Lord has bestowed upon us to share with others. Tools and strength that so many around us could benefit from in their own battles. We hoard these TREASURES selfishly, wanting them to be used but unwilling to give away.
Both are sins in the eyes of the Lord, for he has said to hand over your sins, and he will remove them. Cleansing us. But we pridefully, shamefully try to outwit His word by thinking that the dusty box hidden in the attic is beyond His view. We disobey and refuse his gift. Further, he has granted each one of us gifts, not for our own use but for our brothers and sisters struggling with their own battles. When we don’t put those gifts to use we sin against His plan for us.
I beg of you, pray for me as I hand over my own dusty boxes….yes I have many, while opening the gifts He has chosen for me, carefully studying the instructions and putting them to use. He has called me many times, and I have refused to answer. Have you taken his call today?
