Stay Focused
“Be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left.” Joshua 23:6
Quite a while ago, some friends and I were watching a popular comedian on TV. As a trophy buck strolled under his tree stand, he challenged viewers, “No matter what- you’ve got to stay focused!” Ever since, any time we’ve faced distraction, we have reminded each other of this advice! As we come to the end of the book of Joshua, we also come to the end of Joshua’s life. Nearing death, one of the things this great leader is most concerned about is the nation of Israel getting distracted. This land they had conquered was full of new things- new places, new resources, new responsibilities, new people, new philosophies and new religions. The key to their success would be their ability to stay focused on the Word of God, His law- His instructions about life, relationships, finances, raising their families and worshiping Him. Though it was written thousands of years ago, Joshua’s challenge to Israel rings true for us as 21st century Christ followers. The culture in which we live is full of distractions, not all of which are bad in themselves. However, even good things in the wrong proportions take our attention away from the Creator of our souls! As life swirls around us, let’s be careful to make sure that our eyes are fixed firmly on our God and the Truth of His Word. And remember- you’ve got to stay focused!
