Something Needs to Change

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  Colossians 3:1, 2

If this log is the task of getting the gospel to the world, and the bearers are missionaries, imagine that on one end of the log are 100 laborers, and on the other end there are only 2. The 100 represent those going from churches in the “reached” world to other “reached” countries. These are the ones with lots of churches, Bibles, believers, and Christian media – like North and South America and Europe. The 2 struggling under the load on the other end represent those trying to get the gospel to the 3 billion people in the world who don’t have access to it.
The reality is there is a huge imbalance of workers in relation to the need when it comes to getting the gospel to unreached peoples. Of the 400,000 people involved in Christian missions around the world, 97% of them are working in areas where they already have the gospel. The other 3% work with those who are yet unreached.
In regard to finances the situation is no better. About 1% of Christian giving goes toward reaching these same ones who have no access to the gospel. Do we find this situation acceptable? I say something needs to change.
If we intend to make disciples of all nations, as Jesus commanded us, we need to address this imbalance. We need to rethink our focus. The missions team at Moss Brook Church is working on ways to help improve the situation. This will involve all of us. Every one of us has the commission to go and make disciples of all nations. Some of us will be goers, the rest of us are senders. And we all need to be doing the work of prayer. Let’s each one of us set our hearts on things above.
