Situational Confusion

“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:16

Human development is truly amazing! Did you know that a baby’s heart begins to beat in the womb a mere six weeks after conception? Even though his whole body is only about one half inch long! By ten weeks, his eyes are wide open. In 40 weeks, a beautiful baby is born full of the potential of a long life, perhaps 80 years of playing, working, living and loving. Who knows what the future might hold for this little one?

God knows. Long before his tiny body has a beating heart, in eternity past, sovereign God knew what would happen in every moment of that precious child’s life. You were that child. I was that child. That child is each and every one of us. Of course, we have no idea what will happen from one day to the next in our own lives. We think we can plan it, control it, direct it, but we have very little actual effect on what takes place around us. At some point as we live life, we will deal with pain, difficulty, suffering, and when we do- of course we do not choose it- we will begin to question the source, the cause of it.

As the pain swirls in our hearts, we will experience what we might call “situational confusion.” We will be tempted to blame God, to forget that He is good, that He is loving, that He has always known what we will experience. When our instinct is to seek answers, let us instead seek God. For He knows. And He loves us.
