Seek Righteousness
“Seek the Lord, all you humble of the earth, who carry out what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be concealed on the day of the Lord’s anger.”
Zephaniah 2:3 CSB
This last week as I was studying the book of Zephaniah this verse caught my attention. Let me take a minute and give you a little context. The prophet Zephaniah was giving a warning to the nation of Judah and really the whole world. His warning was, “If you continue to disregard God and willfully live in sin, God will judge you.” His warning can be repeated to us today. But he didn’t just give a warning; he also gave some advice on how to change our ways. Here is his advice: “Seek the Lord, seek righteousness and seek humility.” His advice is very simple yet often difficult for us to live out. When we seek the Lord we are looking for a personal relationship with him. Have you found that relationship yet? Seeking righteousness is all about allowing the Holy Spirit to produce the fruit of the Spirit in us, and seeking humility is the characteristics of Christ being evident in us.
How well have you been following the advice of Zephaniah?
