Safe

“Who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” I Peter 1:5

There are many things from my childhood that I don’t remember. My wife often asks me questions about when I was younger, and there’s just a lot I can’t recall! Maybe I should get that checked out….. Anyway, I do remember believing that my dad was the strongest man in the world. Physically, my dad has really broad shoulders and huge hands. When he took my hand to go somewhere, my little hand was swallowed up in his. I don’t ever recall being scared when I was with my dad. I felt safe.

In today’s verse, Peter is describing the security that believers have in Christ. He says that we are “guarded” through our faith until our death, or until Christ returns for us. But, notice that our faith is only the channel of our security. Our faith does not guard us, we are guarded by God’s power. Our salvation is sure because of the power of almighty God! Jesus said it this way, “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28). He gives eternal life to us, and He guarantees it by His own strength.

The strength of my earthly father made me a confident child. I was not fearful of what might happen because I knew he was protecting me. As a child of God, my heavenly Father holds my life in His hands. I am not fearful. His strength secures my eternity. Can you move through life confidently? Are you trusting God with your eternal destiny? When your life is in the Father’s hands, you are safe.
