Run Well
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
I share with you these thoughts from a friend who is a long distance runner.
Running a marathon is hard. It requires a huge amount of preparation and training just to be able to complete a race like that, let alone to finish well. Training starts months in advance to build endurance, strength and stamina. It includes many miles on the road as well as cross-training and stretching to keep your body limber. But no matter how much you prepare for the race, if you don’t fuel your body properly you won’t run well. You might start out great, but long before the race is over you will run out of gas. Our lives as Christ followers are much the same way. If we do not properly feed our spirit, we might start out great, but we will falter and run out of gas. Fueling our spirit by spending regular time in the Word and in prayer is essential. The Bible often compares our lives as Christ followers to that of running a race. 2 Timothy 4:7 says “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” If we want to finish the race, we must properly fuel our spirit.
How are you fueling your spirit? Are you spending time in the Word? Are you spending time in prayer?
