Rest
What does rest look like for you? When do you feel like you are rested? Do you even know when you need a rest?
We live in a period of time when most of us just run. It has become the norm; we don’t think much of being on the edge and having no wiggle room. Then life goes sideways, we feel overwhelmed and wonder why we are so stressed. Now, I know that we cannot eliminate all of the stress and tiredness from our lives. But we most certainly can lessen its impact.
So now your question is, “How do I do that?” Let me make a few suggestions. How about planning a day with no projects and plan on going for a walk, taking a nap, going on a bike ride, sitting on your back or front porch, watching your kids play, or reading a fun book? The idea is to allow things that you enjoy to replenish your soul. For some of you that may involve other people, for some of you it means being alone. This isn’t necessarily about length of time as much about quality time. Stopping for a little while gives us the opportunity to reevaluate what really matters and what is just taking up time. There is something that happens in us when we unplug and get off the treadmill of life for a little while. We get reoriented and reinvigorated for what is coming next.
How about you? Do you need to take a short break? Go ahead try it. You will be glad you did, and those closest to you will be glad you did.
