Responsible

“I and no one else am responsible for the condition of my soul.” John Ortberg

Over the past few months I have been preparing and teaching a leadership class on self leadership. In my prep time I came across this quote. “I and no one else am responsible for the condition of my soul.” It has caused me to pause and spend some time thinking about how seriously I take the condition of my soul. I have a quiet time daily. I spend considerable time on my health, I work out almost every day and I am careful and aware of what I am eating. I spend time making sure our budget is set up and being followed. As a family we spend time together and are cultivating our relationships with each other, and we spend time studying/thinking about God’s Word together. A few times a year I purposely stop and do a little internal search to see how I am doing with God, but I don’t think that is enough. I have come to realize that caring for my soul is required daily. What brought me to the place that I think this is so? I realized how easily I am distracted, how quickly I am pulled away from the most important relationship. It only takes a moment for me to go from being on track with God to chasing after my own thing. Looking after my soul is a daily requirement, allowing the Spirit of God to have and be in control is a must. This means that I am constantly getting to know Him and yielding my will to Him. My soul is much healthier when I care for it daily.
