Renew Your Mind
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, 7-8 “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor….. For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.”
As a pastor, one of the most common questions I field from people is this: “How can I know God’s will for my life?” Generally, people are wondering who they should marry, whether or not to pursue a new job. We should certainly ask God for guidance and wisdom in those and many other critical daily decisions! Yet in one of the clearest verses Paul ever wrote, he states that God’s will for us is sanctification. Simply defined, sanctification is progression in holiness, becoming more like Christ. In 2017, one of the most difficult areas in which to remain pure is sexual immorality. Sexual immorality is not just cheating on your spouse or premarital sex. It is filling our minds with that which is not holy. How often as we settle in to watch TV, a movie or just surf the web, do we think about what we are actually putting into our minds? In Romans 12:2, Paul says the only way to be transformed into the person God wants you to be is to renew your mind. The only way to renew your mind is to change what you are allowing to go into it. Christ follower- let me challenge you today to take care what is entering your mind. If you disregard this, you are disregarding God Himself, whose Holy Spirit dwells in you (v.8).
