Purpose

“And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live.”
2 Peter 1:13 NLT

Two questions for you today: What’s your purpose? And, How closely are you sticking to it? As I have been reading and studying the book of 2 Peter the past few weeks, I have been reminded how important having a purpose for my life is. I have been reminded that the only way to complete the things that really matter is to be sure of the purpose behind them. If I am unsure of the why and I am not convinced that these things really have meaning, then I will be easily distracted. Anything that seems more exciting or interesting will get my attention. Maybe you noticed in the verse from the beginning of the blog that Peter is so convinced that reminding believers to live out the truth is so important and matters so much, that he is willing to spend all of his remaining time on earth reminding and repeating the truth to everyone. He is dedicated to not just a one time reminder, but he says that he “should keep on reminding.” You might say that he has a singular mindset. Remember, this is impetuous Peter we are talking about, Peter who at one point denied even knowing Jesus. Now he is willing to give his life to point others to knowing Jesus and keeping them focused on the truth!
How about you? What is the right thing for you to spend your life doing? Maybe a better question is, what are you spending your life doing? Is it something with eternal value? Does it have the ability to change peoples’ eternal destiny?
What’s your purpose?
