Personally Rooted
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8 NLT
Over the next few weeks of this blog, I am going to talk through what being personally rooted is and how it affects our lives.
The verses that you just read from Jeremiah 17 are the theme verses we chose for our “Rooted” building Campaign here at Moss Brook Church. These verses do a wonderful job of walking us through what it looks like to go from new birth in Christ to a mature Christ-follower.
The verses start out focusing us on God and our relationship with Him. “Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.” The truth that is being conveyed here is that we need to come to the place in our lives where we understand we are sinners in need of a Savior. The book of Romans tells us that it was “while we were still sinners and enemies” of God that he sent his son Jesus at “just the right time” to pay our sin debt. He paid the price for our sin we are unable to pay. It is now up to us to turn to the one who has paid that debt, Jesus, ask his forgiveness, and accept his gift of eternal life.
It is only in having a relationship with Jesus that I can become rooted. It is through my relationship with Christ that I find the nutrition that I need to begin to grow in my faith.
Have you come to the place where you know you are a sinner in need of a Savior? Have you repented of your sin and placed your faith and trust in his finished work on the cross? If not, you can right now! You can be rooted in Christ.
