Our Story

Have you ever spent any time thinking about your story ? I don’t just mean the story of your past events, but your whole story. Let me ask you a few questions to help you unpack your story. Besides yourself, who are the main characters? What are the main events of your story? Where is your story taking place? Where should it be taking place? Is your story a drama, tragedy, thriller, comedy or maybe a tale of rebirth? How is your story progressing? What is the hopeful conclusion of your story? Now, at this point you are probably wondering where I am going with this thought? Well, I was reading the book of Matthew, and the first phrase of the first verse caught my attention. “ An account of the the genealogy of Jesus Christ”. It is an introduction to the earthly story of the life of Jesus. I don’t know if you have spent much time thinking about the earthly story of Jesus, but if you did you would quickly notice that Jesus life was all about others. The sole purpose of his life was the redemption of humanity. Every action and event of his life was leading him to the cross where his death and resurrection would pay for the sins of all mankind.
How does the story of Jesus affect my story? I am glad you asked. It affects my story in two ways. First, if I yield myself to his story and accept his payment for my sin, my story can be redeemed. My story of struggle becomes a story of rebirth. Second, once I am redeemed I become an extension of the story of Jesus. The story is no longer about who I am or what I am becoming; the story is about who Jesus is and how he is transforming me into his image.
Why not take a little time today and think about whose story you are trying to live out–yours, or the one God intended for you?
