Our Plans Vs. God’s

“Trust me when I say this: the issue isn’t whether your life is going well or falling apart; the question is, what makes you so sure you can tell the difference? Things are seldom as they appear.” ~Levi Lusko

I started a new Bible plan on the YouVersion Bible App called “Through the Eyes of a Lion” by Levi Lusko. The first day, at the end of the devotion, Levi finished with what I wrote above. That quote hit me straight upside the head.
How often do we grumble and complain about how awful our life is? “It’s terrible!” we exclaim to whomever will listen. “Life isn’t going at all how I wanted it to go!” When I hear that, I picture God up in heaven chuckling. Why? Because it’s foolish to make our own plans without checking with God first.
In the movie, Evan Almighty, a new senator for congress promises to “change the world,” and he asks God for help. “God” decides to show up and help him do that by instructing Evan to build an ark. Evan responds as most of us would: “Well, then you have to understand that this whole building-an-ark thing is really not part of my plans here. I need to settle into my house. I need to make a good impression at work…”
And “God” responds by laughing. “Your plans? That’s just…” and he continues to chuckle.
When we turn to God and tell Him that what He wants and knows is best for our lives isn’t in our plans, He has the right to continue with His plan. Whether we eventually get on board with it or not is totally up to us. God could easily show up in peoples’ lives, and He does, but He prefers to use us to share His Word with others.
Will you decide to give up your plans for God’s? Will you decide to look at your life and realize that, although things may not be going the way you’d hoped, God is making those things happen for a reason? If you change your outlook on your life, you might realize that it isn’t that bad, that God will use whatever happens to bring Him glory.
