Obsessed!

We are all weird!

Oh yes you are. I know, everyone else is weird; you are the only normal one. Right! Every one of us has the tendency to be a little obsessive about something. For some it is their looks, hair or lack of, clothing (style), appearance. Or maybe it is health, or you’re a neat freak, maybe you nerd out about your budget or a hobby. In some aspect of each of our worlds we obsess. Whatever that obsession is will eventually control us if left unchecked. It will steal our time, energy and relationships. “So, Pastor Tim, are you saying that I need to change my personality, that I need to fight and claw my way out of my obsession?”  (Maybe.)
No, what I am getting at, is that as Christ followers we need to change our obsession. We need to become obsessed with Christ. The apostle Paul said it this way in his letter to the Philippians: “My goal is to know Christ. This one thing I do. Forgetting what is behind, I press toward Christ.” See, we can only be obsessed with one thing at a time, so if I am obsessed with Christ then I don’t have time nor energy to be obsessed with anything else. Then Christ can lead me to engage in other activities and relationship in an honoring way.
