Moments
“The greatest moment of your life is now. Not because it is pleasant or happy or easy, but because this moment is the only moment you’ve got.” John Ortberg
I was reading John Ortburg’s book God Is Closer Than You Think, and this thought kind of jumped off the page at me. I often find myself either looking back and remembering great moments or looking ahead at what is coming next anticipating how wonderful those moments will be. There is nothing wrong with either of these activities; both are good and healthy for us in order to maintain a proper perspective on life. But if we are not careful we can catch ourselves in the past or future, forgetting to live in the present. Each moment that we have is a gift from God that He allows us to spend any way we choose, and each moment has the potential of being our greatest. The Apostle Paul reminds us in the book of Ephesians to “make the most of our time, because the days are evil.” I began to wonder, how many of my moments slip by without anything good or productive happening? How many moments do I waste? How many of my moments slip by without bringing any glory or honor to the name of Christ? I don’t know about you, but I want everything that I do to have meaning and purpose and I want to do my part for the kingdom of God. What I realized is that I am very intentional about the big stuff: life direction, budgeting, health, and spiritual growth, but I am not very intentional about how I spend each moment. This is something that needs some work. How about you? How well are you using the only moment that you have, this one?
