Live Today

Have you ever come to the end of your day and wondered what you did that mattered? (Maybe you have come to the end of your day and wondered what happened? That is a totally different discussion for another blog.) I was reading Psalm 90 the other evening and verse 10 made me stop and reflect for a bit. Here is what it says, “Our lives last seventy years or, if we are strong, eighty years. Even the best of them are struggle and sorrow; indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away.” As I push hard against the big FIVE ZERO I am reminded just how quickly life goes by. It seems like just yesterday Pamela and I were moving back here to the Oxford Hills to plant Moss Brook Church, and a few days after that our children were born. What I am getting at is–time flies!!!! Our seventy to eighty years on this earth are gone like the wind and are dotted with hurt and difficulty. If we were to look at life simply from that point of view then we could get discouraged and give up. But as Christ followers we are called to live each day as an example of Christ to the glory of God. When that becomes our motivation and desire, then each day has meaning and hope, and we end each day realizing that not only what we did mattered but also what we do tomorrow matters. Yes, our lives go by quickly and are often filled with trouble, but, as we commit and yield to God each day, our lives will have meaning and will make a difference by pointing others to the one who is hope–Jesus.
