Know What You Believe

Esther 3:2b
“But Mordecai would not bow down or pay homage.”

Over the past few weeks I have been studying the book of Esther, and there have been several phases that have caught my attention. This is one of them: “But Mordecai would not bow down or pay homage.” The longer I have thought about this the more I realize how important the phrase is. Here is why. To “bow down or pay homage” means to worship. Mordecai had to be sure of who he would worship, so he would know who he wouldn’t worship. As you read through the book of Esther it becomes very evident that Mordecai’s heart and soul belonged completely to God and no one else. Because he was certain of who he would worship he knew that he could not bow down to anyone else. Often we try to worship two or more gods at once. The Bible tells us that a double-minded person is unstable in all their ways (James 1:8), and that you cannot worship two gods, for you will love one and hate the other (Matthew 6:24). God designed us to only be able to worship one God, and he made it so He is the perfect fit.
So let me ask you, do you know the only God that you will bow and worship? Or are you still trying to fit gods into the place that God created in you for himself? There is nothing nor anyone who can fill His place. All that you try will come up short.
