It’s Time
“But the land could not support both Abram and Lot with all their flocks and herds living so close together.”
Genesis 13:6 NLT
The verse you just read comes from the middle of the story of Abram. He had been obedient and done what God had asked. He left his home land and started a journey to a place that God was going to show him. He had taken his nephew Lot with him and because of God’s blessing on them their households and wealth had grown. They had done so well that there wasn’t room for them to live close to one another anymore. It was time to make a move.
I think in each of our lives we come to a place where we need to make a move. I don’t mean a geographical move, I mean a life move. I mean realizing that for me to continue living the way I have been living will not lead me to the place I want to end up, so I must change. For Abram the change was moving away from Lot to avoid fights and confusion in their individual lives. For you the change may be breaking away from some friends, becoming more consistent in your relationship with Christ, spending more time reading and less screen time, becoming more physically active. I am sure you already know what it is for you.
A little later in Genesis 13 we are told that Abram gave Lot his choice of land. Lot took the best land, and Abram moved in the opposite direction. God came to Abram and told him, “Get up and walk around the land, through its length and width, for I will give it to you.” Now, I am not saying that God is going to give you land and wealth, what I am saying is that when we obey God he will always bless our obedience.
Is it time for you to be obedient to what God is asking of you?
