It’s Coming

“On account of these the wrath of God is coming.” Colossians 3:6

Anticipation is one of the most exciting emotions that a human being can experience. Who can forget what it was like to be a child on Christmas Eve, or to look ahead to a birthday party, or summer vacation? Even as an adult, I find myself looking forward to a quiet evening with my wife, a road trip with my son, or a visit with my parents. And I may or may not have a secret countdown calendar for my next vacation!

Of course, not all future events are enjoyable. A visit to the doctor’s office, a major car repair or an upcoming root canal can seriously ruin your day! Paul mentions another future event that you can pencil in as guaranteed to happen–judgment. Yes, there is a judgment coming, and no amount of maneuvering will keep it from taking place. The holiness and justice of God demand that all of the sin and filth of this world (Galatians 5:17-21) must be punished. There will be a great judgment, and everyone who is standing before God on that day will be judged according to everything they have done. The result of that terrible day will be eternal punishment for all present (Revelation 20:11-15).

Wonderfully, you do not have to stand in that number before the great white throne of God and face hell. Because of God’s love, we can have eternal life (Romans 6:23). Christ’s sacrifice allows us to anticipate a different day, when we will be welcomed into God’s presence (Matthew 25:23). How thankful we must be! But friends, think of those around you without Christ. Judgement is coming. Will you warn them?
