ISH-ing Time

Are you easily distracted? Oh, look! There goes a squirrel!!! If you are like the majority of North Americans distraction is your middle name. From our hobbies, mobile devices, gadgets, jobs, social networking, constant flow of information and even our families, we live in a very distracted time. We see and feel the results of it in every area of our lives. From accidents by distracted drivers, anxiety from too much stimulation, more work than we can handle, to sickness due to lack of rest and unhealthy choices. All are a result of being distracted with our time. God knew that this was and would continue to be one of humans’ great struggles; that is why he had Paul write these words in Ephesians 5:15-16 “Pay careful attention, then, to how you live – not as unwise people but as wise – making the most of the time, because the days are evil.”
Satan wants us to live distracted lives. The more we run and flit around, the less we actually accomplish for the kingdom of God. We cannot be distracted and intentional at the same time, and very little is followed through on without intentionally. If at some point in our lives we don’t grab our time and tell it what to do we will continue to live incomplete and frustrated lives. When was the last time you told your time what it was to be used on? When have you not allowed distractions to overtake your time? If the answer to those questions is never, start today. If you have struggled with this but you have been working on it, keep at it. “Pay careful attention to your time and make the most of it.”
