Is This You?

I have been working on a sermon from the book of Job this week for “ The Whole Story” series, and the first verse of the book grabbed my attention.
“There was a man in the country of Uz named Job. He was a man of complete integrity, who feared God and turned away from evil.”
Job 1:1 CSB
What caught my attention was the way God chose to describe Job, “a man of complete integrity, who feared God and turned away from evil”. What a description! I started to wonder if God chose to use me as an example for His people as He did Job, how would He chose to describe me when He introduced me to others? Could he use all three of those descriptors of me, or just two, or maybe one? Did you notice the phrase, “a man of complete integrity”?  Not just a man of integrity but a man of complete integrity, and that is God’s description of Job. In other words, there are no questionable character issues publicly or privately. Wow! How did Job live so that God said that about him? Well, the next two phrases give us the answer. He “feared God.” That means he respected and honored the person and character of God in his daily living.  And he “turned from evil.” That means he did not flirt with or hang out with evil. In other words, he allowed the character of God to determine what he would think about and be involved in.
So how about you? If God were going to use you for an example, how would He introduce you to the world? How you choose to live today will determine how you would be introduced. It’s your choice.
