Important?

What is important to you? What is the one thing that is so important to you that you will drop everything to make sure that one thing happens?

This summer I read this phrase, “If everything is important, nothing is important.” I’m not really sure who said it, but whoever did is right. Often we try to make all kinds of stuff important in our lives, chasing after different ideas and activities until we never really do any of them well. We end up letting ourselves and those closest to us down. We end up feeling empty and incomplete, looking for something that will bring meaning and fulfillment.

The apostle Paul said it best “…but one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Jesus Christ.” As a Christ-follower, make your relationship with Christ the one thing that is most important. Let everything else in your life flow out of who you are in Christ; allow that relationship to determine how you are involved with others and the activities that you give yourself to.
