How Consistent Are You?
“[Daniel] went into his house…and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”
Daniel 6:10b
As I have lived life and grown older, a few truths have become very real to me. One of those truths is found in this half a verse. Here is the principle: “I only really believe what I do consistently.” It is easy to make all kinds of claims about what I believe and what I think makes me a good, happy, healthy, and successful person, but the things I do daily prove what I really believe. Daniel believed that the answers to life and the meaning for his life was found in God. Because that was his belief he regularly spent time talking to God asking for wisdom and direction. If you were to read the verses on either side of this one you would see that he was staking his life on his belief, literally. He was so convinced that prayer and his relationship with God was where the answers for life were found that he was willing to give his life for it. Really, we do the same thing each day; we have habits we do over and over hoping for a positive result. Only the values we often are staking our lives on have no foundation, things like our jobs, kids, entertainment, buying things, and even our health. Daniel believed that God could and would direct him in every aspect of life, so he consistently went to Him on his knees, knowing whatever answers and direction he got would be right.
How about you? What do you find yourself constantly turning to, looking for answers and meaning? Is it producing the result you are looking for?
May encourage you to, like Daniel, consistently go to God. I promise what you find in Him will bring meaning and fulfillment to your life.
