Has Christ’s Coming Affected You?
“The angel replied to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”
Luke 1:35 CSB
Over the past month I have been rereading the events leading up to the birth of Jesus and thinking through how those events changed Mary and Joseph’s life, and have changed our world, and have changed me personally. The change in our world was not what everyone thought it would be or wanted it to be. The hope of the Jews was for a physical King who would overthrow the Roman rulers. Instead, a tiny baby was born to an insignificant couple in an insignificant town. Angels announced to insignificant shepherds his coming and they worshipped, while most of the rest of the world wasn’t even aware that the King of Kings was coming and had arrived. Even though the majority of humanity missed his coming and never celebrated or recognized him, over the next thirty-three years he would completely change the trajectory of the human race. He brought hope to the hopeless, healing to the broken, forgiveness to the guilty, light to those swallowed by darkness, and new life to everyone who accepts his gift of redemption. What is most interesting about all the changes Jesus has brought to us is he never forces any of them on us. He offers gently, kindly, and with a willingness to be rejected. He never forces us to accept anything he offers. He knows what he is offering will bring peace and and fulfillment to us, but we are free to try to do it on our own. The sad fact is that so often we try to find meaning on our own, when meaning has been paid for already and is offered to us freely. It is found wrapped in the person of Jesus who came as a baby so long ago.
Have you allowed his coming to have an eternal affect on your life?
