God’s Promise
Some time later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.”
Genesis 15:1 NLT
If you recall from earlier in the book of Genesis, God made a covenant with Abram, that if Abram would follow God’s leading, God would use him to make a great nation and God would curse anyone who treated him wrong. Then in this verse God comes back to Abram with a promise of reassurance, “I will protect you.” The promise from God here to Abram is his very presence. He is letting Abram know that he has nothing to fear because God is looking after him and is in complete control.
Did you know that God gives us that same promise? In John 14:16 Jesus gave those who trust in him this promise, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.” If you have placed your trust in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, then the Holy Spirit lives in you. He will protect, guide, give strength, encourage and keep you in perfect peace. The Holy Spirit is the presence of God in us.
I don’t know what you are facing today or this week, but I would like to encourage you. Trust the Holy Spirit, allow him to direct you and lead you. Listen for his voice. God promised his presence and he has never failed to keep a promise. That means, Christ follower, you have all that you need to face whatever is before you. Simply trust!
