God Is Vast!!!

Psalm 8:3-5
“When I consider Thy heavens, the works of Thy fingers… What is man…”

According to NASA research the known (or visible) universe is estimated to be ninety-four billion lightyears in diameter. That would take Mr. Spock, Captain Kirk, Commander Scotty, Captain Picard, Mr. Worf, Commander Data, and so forth…approximately 1,354,240,000 billion years to cross at warp speed 9.99! Not even an android like Mr. Data would survive that long! If I drove my 2007 Honda Accord at turnpike speed of seventy miles an hour…well you can do the math. Honda makes long-lasting cars, but not quite that long-lasting.
As we wonder at the vastness of our Universe, let’s consider the only one and true God who created it. David wrote “When I consider Thy heavens, the works of Thy fingers… What is man…!” Think of it! The same God who created this vast universe and all it contains created you and me. The same God who keeps this universe in order loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to live amongst us and die for us so that we can be forgiven of our sins and spend eternity with Him.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the vastness of your own personal “universe”? Family issues, health or finances, addictions and habits, just feeling low and insignificant and that you do not fit in? Even in the middle of a church service (which can feel like a vast universe) do you feel alone and insignificant? I know I do, and fairly often too. But I have to remember that God loves me! I am His handy work and His creation. He sent Jesus to die for me! He gave me gifts and talents to use to serve Him and to lead other people to Him.
God’s vastness is beyond imagination, but He is so personal that through Jesus, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, I can know Him as Father and Friend. So take comfort. The end of the universe is a billion lightyears away. But God is ever so close!
