Glorious

“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and Amen!” Psalm 72:18-19

The other day, I had an early appointment. I set my alarm, got up, got ready and stepped out the door at 6am. As soon as I walked outside, I felt a cool breeze–the air was clear and wonderfully free of humidity. When I turned the corner, bright sunshine hit my face. I thought, “Wow! It is going to be a beautiful day in the neighborhood!” I got in my car, rolled down the window, and cruised to my meeting, enjoying every minute of the ride. As I reflect on that moment, I can see that the glorious day had put me in a great mood.

So why are there so many days that I do not start out in a great mood? You know, days when it’s raining, windy, frigid, snowing? Am I that fickle? (Stay with me–this is not a blog about weather!) What I realize about myself is that I am not very thankful. When God blesses me with a beautiful day, I’m grateful. When He blesses me with a rainy day, I’m not.

Friends, everything that God gives us is a blessing–even the things we don’t think we want! God knows exactly what we needs and gives it to us. If it was sunny and dry every day, nothing would grow and we’d all starve to death! That’s why Paul says that we should be thankful for everything (Ephesians 5:20). God knows far better than we do, and cares for us perfectly. All that He does is glorious. Are you thankful for everything?
