Generosity: Learning to Give

I would like to put a little challenge in front of us for this next year. How about we take this next year and try to be extremely generous? How about we look for all kinds of little ways to be generous to the people that we rub shoulders with everyday. What if we don’t worry about how people will respond or what they will think of us, we’ll just be generous?
One of the truths that I am learning is giving or generosity is a muscle, and the only way to build muscles is to use them. The more they are used the more in shape they become. The more in shape they become the more I am able to use them, the more I use them the more work I accomplish, the more work I accomplish the more value I gain. The same is true with generosity. The more I practice it the better at it I become, the better I become at it the more aware I am of the needs of others and the more discerning I become in my ability to help.
Will we make mistakes in our giving? Will we be taken advantage of? Yes, of course, but don’t let that stop us. Realize that we are not perfect and neither are the people we are being generous to. We are being generous as a response to God and to bring honor to him.

Pray with me and ask God to give us the eyes to see the need, the heart to care and the understanding to respond wisely.

Let’s see how God uses us to build his kingdom this year through generosity.
