Few Words
We seem to be living in a time when people feel free to share their option about everything, maybe because of all of our social media outlets and the fact that people can post things without having to look others in the eyes as they share their thoughts. I believe this has led to lots of harmful and relationally devastating things being said with little thought given to the consequences.
Have you ever spent much time with someone who never stops talking, and they seem to have something to say about everything? When there is nothing really to talk about they begin to nervous talk just so there is noise. If you spend much time with them you find yourself tuning them out and not really listening to anything they have to say.
Then there are those who rarely speak. There have been two or three different people that I have worked with who tended to be rather quiet, they never really said much, but then when something major was happening or a big decision was about to be made, they would say something that was incredibly insightful and very well thought out. They had an ability to quietly think through events and problems and draw conclusions and then formulate their thoughts in such away that brings clarity to those around them. Those people are described well for us in Proverbs 17:27, “The one who has knowledge restrains his words, and one who keeps a cool head is a person of understanding.”
What type of person are you? Do you have a few of the quiet thoughtful types in your life? If yes, do you allow they to speak into yours? I hope you do.
