Faithful Humility

What was the last thing that God asked you to do? Maybe it was something that you needed to change or a mistake you needed to correct. Maybe it was a relationship that needed some care or forgiveness. Maybe it was to be involved in helping someone or to show love to someone. Whatever it was, have you been doing it? Have you been following through on what you know you should be doing? Often the action of following through doesn’t seem very glamorous or fulfilling; we want to believe that there must be so much more that we could be doing or something more profitable. There isn’t! God wants us to be found faithful in the everyday, in the normal. The reason is that he is more concerned with who we are becoming (our character) than he is about what we do. As I was reading the Christmas story this past week I was reminded that God sent the angels to the shepherds. These were the guys wrapped up in the mundane, the everyday. You cannot get much more boring than tending sheep every day. But a shepherd must be faithful, or the sheep die. God chose these humble shepherds to be the first to hear that the Savior had arrived on earth. WOW, what a privilege. So, what is it that you need to be found humbly, faithfully doing? What was the last thing God asked you to do? Are you still at it? It is in being humbly obedient that we become more Christlike in our character. Stay faithful! Keep at it!
