Faith
“Do you believe I can do this?”
Matthew 9:29sf
Faith – complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
How deep is your faith in God? I think this past year has been a huge test of our faith. I think God has been asking his church “Do you believe I can lead you through this?” The sad fact is, I’m not sure the church in North America has responded very faithfully. Which means as individuals who make up the church, we have floundered. It seems that we have gotten caught up in what if’s, political games, and negative discussions and missed an opportunity to simply trust that God is in control. I am not talking about being naive or foolish. I am talking about being drawn closer to God and becoming more Christlike because of what we are facing. Complete faith means God plus nothing else. It means total rest in him. The past year has made some become paralyzed by fear, others have become judgemental and critical, while still others have isolated themselves and hidden.
What should our response as Christ-followers be? To find that answer we have to go back to mission. The mission has never changed. Christ is asking us to continue to do the same as he asked the early church. “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Even in the middle of incredible chaos, that command is possible.
How well have you been staying on mission? Has the past year distracted and sidetracked you? If it has, it is time to refocus and engage again in the mission God has sent us on.
