Does God Hear Us?
“How long, Lord, must I call for help and you do not listen…?
Habakkuk 1:2 CSB
Maybe this verse is how you have been feeling the past few months. You feel like you have been constantly calling out to God, maybe even shouting out to God, and he has not been responding. This may have led you to start to wonder if God is even there, or if you haven’t gone that far, maybe questioning a bit if he cares.
The prophet Habakkuk was at this point as he watched the people of Israel once again living in sin. He started to wonder if the judgment and discipline of God would ever come. It seemed as if they were getting away with all their sin. Habakkuk doesn’t get angry with God or upset with God, he is just beginning to feel lonely. I love the Lord’s response to Habakkuk a few verses later, “Look at the nations and observe — be utterly astounded! For I am doing something in your days that you will not believe when you hear about it” (vs 5). God’s response is so caring and heart-felt. He tells the prophet, “Pay attention, stick with it, keep your eyes open, and be patient. If you watch closely you will see some things happen that can only be my (God’s) hand at work.”
I think that God is saying the same things to us right now. As we are crying out to him and not seeing much going right, God is reminding us to keep trusting, keep following, wait and watch. We will see some events happen that can only be the hand of God.
So let me encourage you today. Keep calling out to God, keep asking for him to intervene, don’t stop seeking him. Trust, He is at work and you will see Him if you patiently wait.
