Confession
“The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.” Proverbs 28:13 CSB
Do you feel like you are carrying a heavy burden? Do you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? Does your heart feel heavy? Sometimes that can be a sign of deep concern or worry, which in both cases we should take to God and give to him. But sometimes those weighty feelings can be a sign of unconfessed sin in our lives. When we are Christ followers and we try to hide sin in our hearts, or we are not trying to hide it, just not deal with it, that sin will burden us and cause us to feel the weight of a broken relationship with our Father. Unconfessed sin can lead us into depression, a disquieted spirit, health problems, and rocky relationships. We become hard to get along with, withdrawn, resentful and bitter. It is easy for us to live with unconfessed sin in our lives. How? We are masters at justifying our actions and responses. We are great at passing the buck and blaming others for why we did something or why we responded in a certain way. The more we react in these manners, the more sin gets a foothold in our hearts. The longer we allow sin to sit unchecked, the harder it becomes to deal with. Proverbs tells us that if we leave it unconfessed we cannot prosper; in other words, it will affect us negatively. The verse goes on to say confession leads to mercy. Just the opposite of what we would think. We think that if we admit we have sinned, we will be judged. God tells us, “If we confess our sin he is faithful and just to forgive our sin, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.“ I am not sure about you, but I love to be forgiven. I love the fact that my forgiveness is sure because of Jesus’ payment for sin. You too can be forgiven, if you will only ask. Go to Jesus and admit your sin and your need of his forgiveness; you’ll be glad you did.
