Church

“If the church is central to God’s purpose as seen in both history and the gospel, it must surely also be central to our lives.” John Scott

I have been thinking a great deal lately about the part the church plays or should play in our lives. The longer I have thought about it the more concerned I have become. I realized as I have been looking at scripture that God loves the Church; it was his idea, he designed it, started it, gave it a chief (his son Jesus), planned for it to be his means of reaching and caring for those he created in his image (us), uses it as a teaching tool for the angels and gives us all gifts and abilities for the express purpose of growing it.  So my conclusion is this, if God loves the church that much, so should I. But what I think happens to most Christ-followers is our attitude toward the church has become one of apathy, not love. We feel like we can take it or leave it. Instead of loving Jesus and His church we find ourselves loving our work, hobbies, sports, money, fun, or simply ourselves better.

How would I know if that has happened to me? One simple test. Who/what gets the majority of my attention, Jesus and His church or everything and anything else?

If I truly love God then I should love what He loves, His church.
