Be the Passenger, Not the Pilot

Take this life I call my own,
Until I’m running after Your heart.
I’m needing to let go.
-Excerpted from “To God Alone” by Aaron Shust

I recently realized that I have been trying to control my life without God. I was still reading His Word every day and praying, but I wasn’t including Him in my day-to-day life. I had pushed Him to the side.
You want to know what I learned from that? It didn’t take long for life to overwhelm me. I tried to keep everything together by myself. I tried to stay afloat in this crazy world alone. And guess what? I couldn’t do it.
God never created us to fly solo through life. He doesn’t want to be the passenger, He wants to be the pilot. But we have to let Him take control of our lives. And that’s easier said than done.
God has given us a free will. He wants us to choose to let Him lead our lives. He wants us to willingly turn to Him in surrender and say, “I can’t walk through this life alone. I am handing over all the control to You. Take my life and use it to bring glory to You.” I can promise you that it is so much easier for me to be the passenger on God’s plane than for God to be the passenger on mine.
God doesn’t want me to have to figure out life’s problems by myself. He wants to help me. He wants to give me His wisdom so I can find answers. He wants me to see my life the way He sees it, a perfect opportunity for His glory to be shown to the world. And He looks at your life the same way. Will you let Him pilot your life?
