Be a “See-Througher”
“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:32
On April 20, 1999, Darrell Scott’s daughter Rachel was murdered along with 12 others at Columbine High School. Darrell had been a Christ follower for many years, but walking through this tragedy radically changed his faith. He realized that most people are “look-atters.” In other words, when terrible things happen in the world and in our lives, we tend to “look at” the horror and the senselessness of the event.
When those children were shot, the vast majority were paralyzed by fear, anger and confusion. How and why could this have possibly happened? While obviously grieving the loss of their precious daughter, the Scott family, because of their faith in the sovereign God of the Bible, chose to “see through” the tragedy and carry on Rachel’s heart for ministry by reaching out to others who were grieving with the Truth of the Gospel. While this did not remove their pain, it did provide them with solid footing to move forward with their lives while trusting God.
Is your heart firmly anchored in the Truth of God’s love for you? He held nothing back, giving His own precious Son, Jesus, that you and I could have life. Knowing that, should not we able to trust Him to give us all things that we need? Even when we are in the midst of pain? Can you, by God’s grace, assured of His love, not just “look at” what you are going through, but “see though” it to what God has in store for you? God is gracious, He loves you and He will withhold nothing you need.
